Published: Fri 23 May 2014 07:55 PM
About 3.40 pm this afternoon a 57 year old Kyeburn man was driving his vehicle in the local area when it slid off a bridge into the Kye Burn. The vehicle landed in a metre of water and the cab was crushed. The driver was trapped but managed to keep his nose and mouth above the water for several minutes until a passing motorist came to his aid.
She held the trapped driver's head above water for about 15 mins until Emergency Services arrived. He was cut free from the vehicle and flown to Dunedin Hospital. He suffered lacerations and possible head injuries but not life threatening. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
