Information sought after robbery attempt
Police have released security camera images of two men who are being sought after an attempted aggravated robbery at a central city dairy yesterday.
The incident occurred at around 9am yesterday [Thursday 22 May] when two men entered the Avenue Dairy at the intersection of Worcester Street and Fitzgerald Ave.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Quested says one of the men was carrying a knife and threatened the female shop attendant, demanding cash and cigarettes.
The woman called out to an associate who was on the premises, and the two intruders fled without taking anything.
The offenders were seen to travel on foot along Worcester Street towards the central city, before detouring through a vacant section towards Gloucester Street near Christchurch East School.
Nobody was injured during the incident, Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Quested says.
The two offenders are described as Maori or Pacific Islanders. One is reported to be approximately 172cm (5ft 8in) tall, and was wearing a distinctive grey checked hoody, a baseball cap with three strips on the peak, dark pants and tan shoes.
The second offender was described as at least 182cm (6ft) tall, and wearing a dark green hoody, a scarf over his face and white pants or overalls with marks on the legs.
Police are appealing for any information that can help identify the offenders. Police also want to hear from anyone who may have seen these men or any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Worcester Street, Gloucester Street and Fitzgerald Ave yesterday morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 3637400. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
