Otago flood conditions update 1300hrs
Most rivers in the North Otago, Dunedin and Strath Taieri areas have peaked, after a period of steady rainfall over the last 36 hours. The Taieri River at Outram continues to rise slowly, and this may result in minor flooding between the main channel and the Taieri Plain floodbanks. The river is expected to peak at just over 200 cumecs, and then start receding this afternoon.
In North Otago, the Shag and Kakanui rivers are receding after peaking overnight. In the Strath Taieri, the Taieri River at Tiroiti has also peaked and is receding. ORC flood managers will continue to monitor river levels as they recede.
Although no heavy rain is predicted over the next few days, farmers and residents are advised to keep up to date with river and rainfall information, via the ORC water info webpage:www.orc.govt.nz/waterinfo or by phoning 0800 426 463.
