Care on Auckland’s Northern Motorway after truck crash
Temporary repairs to Auckland’s Northern Motorway (State Highway 1) are almost complete after a truck crash earlier today, but the NZ Transport Agency says drivers may still face delays during this evening’s peak.
A truck driving north crashed through the motorway’s median safety barrier into southbound lanes between Esmonde Road and Onewa Road. The crash caused extensive congestion and delays.
The Transport Agency’s Auckland Motorway Alliance has been repairing damage to make the highway safe for drivers. All lanes are expected to re-open by mid-afternoon, but an 80kph speed limit will remain in place for people travelling south towards the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Further repairs will be necessary tonight and some lanes will need to be closed. To minimise disruption to drivers, the closures will be timed between 9pm and 5am when traffic is lighter
The Transport Agency thanks drivers for their patience during the day, and apologises for any inconvenience while this important work is carried out. ENDS
