Pukuatua Street overnight re-seal starts Sunday
Rotorua District Council (RDC) is about to commence work on re-sealing a stretch of Pukuatua Street alongside the Trade Central shopping centre and Rotorua Boys High School.
The first phase will start on Sunday night (16 February) covering the curved section of Pukuatua Street from Trade Central shopping centre to Tarewa Road.
RDC Highway & Transport Planning manager Kevin Thompson said the works would be undertaken by roading contractors at night time to avoid traffic disruption as much as possible and to optimise road safety.
“Weather permitting the work should be completed over a period of three successive nights. However while the road surface is being prepared for night time sealing work, motorists travelling during the daytime may encounter an unfinished temporary surface that requires some extra caution and care.
“The second phase of re-sealing is the straight Pukuatua Road stretch from Tarewa Road to the intersection with Old Taupo Road. This will be undertaken during the daytime the following Sunday, 23 February, and should be completed within one day.”
Mr Thompson said the work was being managed by Rotorua District Council under a contract funded by the New Zealand Transport Agency. It was estimated to cost approximately $230,000 and was part of a scheduled highway renewals programme.
“Keeping our roads and highways in good order is important to the council and the Transport Agency and this includes regular re-seals from time-to-time. We appreciate motorists’ patience and cooperation while work is underway,” he said.
