"Police News Alert Issued *** 11.10pm, January 29th (Wednesday) ***"
At about 7:35pm tonight Emergency Services were called to Opouteke Road, Pakotai near Whangarei following a number of explosions and a fire.
When they arrived they found that a shed at the rural property and a car were on fire.
Two people were located with serious burns and have been taken to Middlemore Hospital by helicopter.
Indications are that the explosion and fire were the result of an accident at a clandestine Methamphetamine lab.
Emergency workers and neighbours who went to the scene were decontaminated and Police forensic specialists are testing the scene which has been placed under guard overnight.
Details of the injured people and their condition is not available.
No further info will be released tonight. Further media queries tomorrow should be made to the Northland Police at Whanagarei.
