Name release Hamilton fatal bus crash
As the investigations into the cause of yesterday's fatal collision between a bus and a car in Hamilton continue, the
name of a driver killed in the crash has been released.
Acting Waikato Road Policing Manager, Inspector Marcus Lynam, said 46-year-old Hamilton woman Lynelle Joy BRAY was
killed in the crash which happened at an intersection controlled by traffic lights in the suburb of Beerescourt shortly
before 5pm.
"A man travelling as a passenger in her car at the time of the crash was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance with
moderate injuries and Police would like to extend our sympathies to Ms BRAY'S family at this time."
Mr Lynam said it was too early to comment on the cause of the crash which is currently subject to investigations being
conducted by the Serious Crash and Commercial Vehicle Investigation Units.
"Checking the sequencing of the traffic lights controlling the intersection where the crash occurred will certainly be
one of the focuses of our investigation.
"The other driver involved in the crash managed to bring the bus to a halt a short distance from where the collision
occurred. Passengers travelling on the bus were transferred to another service to complete their journey and steps are
being taken to ensure they get what, if any, support they need."
Mr Lynam said as this year comes to an end with a road toll of 22, the lowest figure ever recorded in the Waikato
yesterday's tragedy reminds us that any death or injury on our roads is one too many.
"With thousands heading to popular holiday spots to see in the New Year, we are urging all motorists to drive to survive
and allow plenty of time to get to and from your destination."
