New Zealand joins global movement with Pro Bono Week
Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) will join countries around the globe by celebrating and encouraging corporate generosity
with Pro Bono Week from 20 – 26 October 2013.
Pro Bono Week is a new initiative where businesses are encouraged to partake in more pro bono practices as well as
recognising those who already volunteer their services in the community. Countries including Canada, USA and UK
celebrate and promote Pro Bono Week annually through inspiring activities and conversations.
This initiative week is the first of its kind in New Zealand, recognising the volunteering work of big corporations such
as Simpson Grierson, Bell Gully, Crowe Horwath and Ideas Shop who offer free consultation and services to community
organisations.
VNZ CEO Vanisa Dhiru believes the pro bono work of organisations is crucial for corporates to get involved with their
community: “We believe the corporate generosity showcased with Pro Bono Week 2013 is outstanding. VNZ wants to celebrate
and encourage this throughout New Zealand, drawing closer links between corporate and community to overcome social
challenges”.
Pro Bono Week celebrates the pro bono work ethic of corporations in the community sector who offer professional skills
and advice to not-for-profits. Without the skills and time of pro bono, community sector organisations would struggle to
survive.
Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) is an association of New Zealand organisations that have a commitment to volunteering,
such as volunteer centres, national and other organisations. Their mission is to promote, support and advocate for
volunteering. www.volunteeringnz.org.nz
