Record Numbers Respond to Tararua District Community Awards
Locals have really got behind their volunteers with 70 entries received for the TrustPower Tararua District Community
Awards. This result is the second highest result since these awards began in 2004.
Entries for the TrustPower Tararua District Community Awards closed on Wednesday 31 July. The TrustPower Tararua
District Community Awards, which recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the
local community, are run in partnership with the Tararua District Council.
TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Suzi Luff says she is excited to be celebrating so many generous, resourceful
and hardworking volunteers through this year’s TrustPower Community Awards.
“The Tararua District is home to a large number of voluntary and community based groups and organisations who work hard
to make the Tararua District a great place to live. The Community Awards highlight and celebrate the huge contribution
of these voluntary groups and we are looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments, successes and services that
these groups provide to their community.
A huge ‘thanks’ must also go to the people who entered these wonderful voluntary groups as well,” says Suzi.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure,
and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.
The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower
National Community Awards. The 2013 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Invercargill and Southland
regions in March 2014.
The TrustPower Tararua District Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function this Wednesday, 25
September, to which all entered organisations as well as those that entered groups will be invited.
