Proud Westie Says It’s the Start of Something Special
Professor Matt Sanders today presented special awards to 32 new Triple P practitioners at Waipareira’s Whanau Centre.
The proud westie founded the word-class positive parenting programme following 30 years of on-going research.
Professor Sanders returns to the west after 33 years and says it’s great to be back.
“It’s a great opportunity to be here to give back to my community.”
“I feel very privileged to present the awards to these new participants and hopefully we’ll begin to see the children and families of our local community benefit from the programme.”
“It is the start of something very special,” Mr. Sanders said.
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is a parenting and family support system designed to prevent – as well as treat – behavioural and emotional problems in children and teenagers. The Triple P programme is used around the world.
Waipareira’s General Manager of Health Airini Tukerangi says it is a great honour to have professor Matt Sanders here to share his knowledge and wisdom with us.
“Professor Matt Sanders’ vision has allowed us to look at our own model of services delivery and how we can use the Triple P model in a Whanau Ora context.
“We are just very humbled to have professor Sanders here, knowing he’s from this rohe (region).”
“It’s very positive for our staff to be able to deliver this leading edge programme with their new tohu.”
The Triple P parenting system has helped approximately six million children and their families around the world. It is used in more than 20 countries and has been translated into 18 languages. More than 55,000 practitioners have been trained it its delivery.
It is a free programme, which has high level outcomes for the wellbeing of children and teenagers around their confidence, resilience and behavior, supporting parents to work out what they want to change and how they can change it.
