Ōpōtiki District Council Nominations Received
For immediate release 9 August 2013
With one week to go before nominations close, Ōpōtiki District Council has received three nominations for Councillors
and one nomination for Mayor.
Three nominations have been received for Ōpōtiki Ward Councillors. The three candidates are Barry Howe (standing
member), Jill Theobald, and Arihia Tuoro.
To date, the only nomination received for the position of Mayor is (current Mayor), John Forbes.
There are also currently four nominations for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board: Yvonne Boyes, Sue Matthews, Derek
Keith Sage, and Clare Wilson.
Nominations close at midday on Friday 16 August. People are encouraged to submit their nominations well in advance of
this deadline as sometimes changes or additions are required to ensure the paperwork meets electoral requirements. This
means applications may need to be re-submitted. The deadline cannot be extended, so all submissions and re-submissions
need to be received before the Friday deadline.
To be eligible to stand for election, a candidate must be on the parliamentary electoral role (anywhere in New Zealand),
be a New Zealand citizen, and have lived at their current address for at least one month (you don’t have to live in the
area in which you will stand). Nominators also need to be on the parliamentary electoral role and reside in the ward for
which the candidate is standing. If you are making a nomination for the Mayoralty, you need to be a resident in the
district.
