Warm Dunedin Pilot Programme Underway
Dunedin (Friday, 1 February 2013) – More Dunedin homes will be warmer and healthier for winter under a trial insulation and heating programme launched today.
The Warm Dunedin programme will work alongside the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme which offers Energywise funding for installing insulation. To help Dunedin homes become warm, healthy and cheaper to heat, the DCC is offering a targeted rate that allows residents to install insulation and/or heating in their homes and pay it off over a 10-year period.
Between 600 to 1000 Dunedin homes can be included in the pilot programme.
Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull welcomed the launch of the programme.
“Dunedin has many older, poorly-insulated homes. This is a great initiative which we have been working on for a long time to improve the standard of living and health of our community.”
Ratepayers who meet the criteria will be able to apply to the DCC for up to $5,000 towards insulation and/or heating, which will be paid off over 10 years using a targeted rate.
Only DCC-registered service providers can be used for the Warm Dunedin programme, but ratepayers can choose which of those providers they use.
The programme started today and all work must be completed by 1 June 2013.
Full information, including DCC-registered service providers and application forms, is available at www.dunedin.govt.nz/warmdunedin.
