Fatal Crash State Highway One
An 82-year-old man has died following a head-on crash on State Highway 1 near Kuriwao this afternoon.
The crash occurred at 1.20pm and involved a Toyota RAV SUV and a sedan car.
The man, who died at the scene, was a front-seat passenger in the sedan car. The woman driver of the sedan was taken to Dunedin Hospital (injuries not known at this time).
Four people were travelling in the SUV. Three suffered moderate to serious injuries. Two were taken by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital and one to Clutha Health First Hospital. The driver received no injuries.
The road is closed with detours available. It is expected to be open again later this evening.
Police including a serious crash investigator have attended, as have the Balclutha and Clinton Fire Service.
