Treble Cone enhances trail map
LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (30 May, 2012) - Treble Cone’s trail map has undergone a revamp to better highlight what the South Island’s largest resort has to offer.
The new map works to demonstrate the sheer scale of the 550 hectare mountain, show the diverse terrain on offer for skiers and snowboarders, introduce a new trail-grading scale and includes areas not previously charted.
Only the groomed trails are now marked on the map with the expansive off-piste areas identified by just their boundaries, outlined and named for the skier to choose their own tracks.
Located in Treble Cone’s saddle The Motatapu Chutes have now been mapped. This popular and challenging area sits within the resorts inbound fences but was never included on the map. Being identified on the map will encourage more advanced skiers and boarders to test themselves and enjoy this area.
The new run grading is in line with international standards of green, blue, red and black to give more differentiation. The introduced red markings are for skiers and boarders who have advanced beyond the intermediate blue runs but not quite ready to take on the steep expert black trails.
Treble Cone ski area manager Jackie van der Voort believes it is important to provide mountain visitors accurate trail information, “Our slopes are vast and varied and we needed to better define the competence levels of our trails. Whether are guests are looking for the adventure of off-piste, riding the powder in the chutes or cruising on groomed trails the new map will be a more effective guide for them,” she said.
Treble Cone will open on 28 June with a scheduled closing day of 30 September. For further information, visit www.treblecone.com or click here for the new trail maps.
