Domino’s Turns Pizza into Everyday Essentials in Levin
Levin families struggling to make ends meet have been given a helping hand thanks to a generous donation by the town’s Domino’s Pizza outlet.
Domino’s Pizza Levin has donated close to $4000 to the Levin Inter-Church Food Bank thanks to a successful Doughraiser.
It saw $1 from every pizza sold during the month donated to the food bank, boosting its coffers just in time for the busy summer period when demand for help traditionally spikes.
It’s the second year in a row the store has run the campaign in the lead-up to Christmas and the New Year. Throughout the year it also donates pizzas that have been mistakenly made or ordered from the wrong store to families that may not be able to put a meal on the table.
Domino’s Pizza Levin franchisee Sherry Champion says she’s delighted local residents got behind the fundraiser and helped out by purchasing pizzas for a good cause.
“Levin is such a small, tight knit community, and it’s so heart-warming to see people dig deep and help out those that are less fortunate,” says Mrs Champion.
“Without the support of the community, we wouldn’t have been able to make such a valuable contribution to the food bank, so for that we are hugely grateful.”
Levin Salvation Army community ministries manager James Lynn says the donation came at just the right time. He says it will be used to purchase fresh produce like milk, meat, fruit and vegetables to go into parcels that will be distributed over the coming months.
“Without the help of businesses like Domino’s and people like Sherry, our job would be much harder than it already is. Being able to go and buy fresh produce with this generous donation means a lot to us and the families we support,” he says.
Domino’s Pizza Levin is located at 245 Oxford St, Levin. The Salvation Army can be found at 11 Durham Street Levin.
