Help us get in touch
Christchurch City Council needs help to confirm that they have made contact with all families of those who were lost and
injured in the earthquake of 22 February 2011.
Mayor Bob Parker says “While it is important to remember those lost, there were many more amongst us who were injured
during the earthquake of 22 February. We would like to extend an invitation to those who were injured and their families
to be seated in a special area at the Civic Memorial Service, the Christchurch Earthquake Awards at North Hagley Park
and the ‘Service to mark the 1st anniversary of the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake’ at Latimer Square on 22 February 2012.
“Those who were injured in the earthquake and their families will remember 22 February for the rest of their lives
because of the impact it has had on them, with many having lasting injuries as a result of that day. We want to take
this opportunity to acknowledge what those who were injured and their families have been through and extend a special
invitation to them to share this commemorative day with us.”
The Council does not have contact details for those injured, due to privacy issues, but we want to make sure that they
are involved in the commemorative events. Please call the Council Customer Call Centre on 941-8999 or 0800 800 169 to
provide the Council’s family liaison team with contact details.
The Council is in contact with most family members of those lost regarding the upcoming commemorative events of February
2012, however it is possible that some contact details are out of date.
Mayor Bob Parker says that it is important that all family members, who wish to, are involved in the commemorative
events. If any family members of those lost haven’t received an email from the Council during January then it is likely
that the contact details we have need to be updated.
“We would be very distressed if a family of one of those lost was not able to attend the commemorative events simply
because their contact details are out of date. The Council family liaison team is working hard to have all families
involved, so please call the Council Customer Call Centre on 941-8999 or 0800 800 169 to update contact details.
“We are also asking the community to assist us with this request, to ensure no family members miss out on the
opportunity to be involved in the commemorative events for the first anniversary. We appreciate the community’s support
in assisting the Council to ensure everyone that should be is involved.”
