Submissions Deadline Reminder
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is reminding interested organisations and members of the public that there are two proposed
planning documents currently available for comment that have a deadline looming.
People can make comments on both the ‘built environment’ Change 4 to the Regional Policy Statement and the Draft
Regional Stormwater Strategy until 5 pm Friday 10 February.
“Input from the public and businesses on both of these documents is essential as these set a direction for the future
management of urban and infrastructure development proposals in Hawke’s Bay,” said Gavin Ide, Team Leader Policy,
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council.
Change 4 proposes new objectives and policies to guide future urban development in the Heretaunga Plains area from
Tangoio in the north to Waimarama in the south. It follows on from the Heretaunga Plans Urban Development Strategy
adopted in 2010, with the aim of protecting productive land resources, promoting a ‘compact city’ philosophy and
ensuring land development decisions match infrastructure needs.
The draft Stormwater Strategy is intended to provide common direction to improve the coordination between agencies
managing rainfall run off.
The draft strategy promotes an integrated catchment approach which means that, within each drainage catchment (such as
the Karamu Stream), stormwater, land use, water quality and water quantity will be managed together.
“The draft Stormwater Strategy is another key document needing input from businesses and residents. By contributing your
comments about rain fall runoff and management, especially to improve water quality in streams and rivers, it can help
get everyone involved ‘on the same page’ and working together for the same outcome,” said Gavin Ide.
