Further nominations sought for Hastings Civic Honours awards
Hastings District Council is continuing its search for nominees for the 2012 Civic Honours Awards.
The awards recognise an individual, group or organisation which has contributed significantly to Hastings District. In 2011 six individuals and two groups were presented with civic awards for their outstanding work in the community.
Nominations are welcomed in one of the following six categories; arts and culture, health and welfare, sport and recreation, education and youth, new volunteer and youth volunteer.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says ‘Historically, nominations have been received for people who have given long and consistent service to the community. However it is important that we recognise those who have not long been working as a volunteer. Awards in the new and youth volunteer categories will ensure we honour those who are younger and doing sterling work for the community.”
Lawrence Yule says “The awards recognise those who make a big difference to the community, whatever their age or how long they have been involved in helping the community. It is important that everyone identifies those members of their organisation or community who are deserving of a nomination."
“Volunteers are playing an increasingly important role in ensuring a large variety of services are maintained in Hastings. These awards recognise our stand-out residents for their dedication, perseverance and tenacity in fulfilling their aim to help, teach or nurture others.”
The nominations will be judged by the Council’s Civic Pride Committee before the awards are presented at a ceremony in early May.
Nomination forms are available at the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere libraries or reception at the council building in Lyndon Road. The forms can also be downloaded from www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/community-awards
