Community support leads to more drug arrests
Police are praising the community of Dannevirke for helping to drive out drugs, as public information leads to more
arrests today for cannabis cultivation.
Since 28 October Police have shut down four cannabis growing operations in the town and today they put paid to two more.
Following up on information provided to Crimestoppers, a search warrant was executed at approximately 11am this morning
in Victoria Road, Dannevirke.
Police discovered an indoor grow tent in a double bay garage with five mature cannabis plants and a quantity of dried
cannabis. A 23-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis. He will appear at Dannevirke District Court on 8
December.
At 1.30pm Police went to an unrelated address in Salisbury Street to find an indoor grow constructed of plywood and
polythene in a double garage. 74 plants were recovered ranging in size and maturity. 26 of the plants were a metre high.
A quantity of dried cannabis was also found.
A 21-year-old Dannevirke man appeared at Dannevirke District Court today charged with cultivating cannabis and has been
bailed to reappear on 16 December. Again this was the result of public information.
Detective Sergeant Graham Perks said: "The number of warrants we have been able to execute in recent weeks is indicative
of the superb support we are getting from the local community. It has had a snowball effect and shows that the public do
not want drugs on their doorstep."
