NZ Cup & Show Week kicks off
Summer is in the air and Canterbury’s favourite spring festival, New Zealand Cup and Show Week, is ready to launch this Saturday 5 November.
The long range weather forecast predicts a fine day for next Tuesday’s Cup Day at Addington Raceway.
Christchurch City Council Marketing Manager Richard Stokes says NZ Cup and Show Week will be a timely celebration for the City.
“Cup Week always signifies the start of summer outings and this season will be a particularly welcome time of relaxation and a chance to socialise with friends and family.
“It’s great to have City Mall open, providing shoppers with a last minute opportunity to perfect their outfits. As the warmer weather finally appears to have settled on us – it’s time for Cantabrians to get out and enjoy everything our big Cup Week has to offer.”
The week kicks off with Australasia's best three year olds competing in the Sothys NZ 2000 Guineas, this Saturday 5 November at Riccarton Park, where $1.3 million colt Burgundy is favoured to further enhance his value.
Christchurch Casino NZ Trotting Cup Day at Addington Raceway next Tuesday 8 November will be another huge day of racing, fashion and glamour. The raceway will be showcasing its new entertainment area in place of the Main Public Stand which was pulled down after it was damaged in the February earthquake.
Canterbury A Show, the country’s largest A show, is on next Wednesday 9 through to Showday on Friday 11 November. Another huge line up of entertainment, displays and competitions will be on offer and patrons are guaranteed to enjoy a fantastic day out for the whole family.
Wrapping up the week is Christchurch Casino NZ Cup Day on Saturday 12 November at Riccarton Park. The event is R18 this year and will be capped at 21,000 people to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable day for all.
Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says this is the week we’ve all been waiting for.
“Cup Week is finally here to give us that good time we truly deserve. I encourage all Cantabrians and visitors to the city to make the most of this exciting time and to enjoy some time out with friends and family.”
