New Zealand Natives Bring Hope to Many
Domain Lodge will this week be gifted the latest in a trilogy of work by Waikato artist Michael Moore. Moore’s trilogy of native New Zealand trees symbolise adaptation and survival; and has a unique connection to Cancer Society Auckland’s Domain Lodge.
“One can never be complacent about cancer, as directly or indirectly it touches the lives of most. Everyone at some stage will need the services that the Cancer Society Auckland provides, and as an artist, donating my artwork and a portion of my sales, is something that I can do to show my support” says Moore.
Moore’s work illustrates endurance, survival and adaptation to circumstances, and is expressed in his large oil paintings of NZ native trees. “Old trees are something that we see around us and take for granted, but they are an important point of reference for artistic expression. Trees are fundamental to our survival and they endure and adapt to their environment” says Moore.
Domain Lodge, which is located opposite the Auckland City Hospital is a ‘home away from home’ for cancer patients and the hub for the Cancer Society’s many free services; such as experienced cancer nurses, professionally qualified counsellors and psychologists, and an extensive informative cancer library.
”It is a privilege to be gifted the third in this special trilogy of work, Michael’s generosity will bring pleasure, to the many visitors and patients that come through Domain Lodge.” Say John Loof CEO for Cancer Society Auckland.
Moore will also show his wider collection at the exhibition, a cross section of new and recently produced work, which includes a few surprises, in contrast to his native tree artworks.
The exhibition will be held at the Remuera Gallery, 360 Remuera Road, Remuera from Saturday 13th -27th.
