Angry Kapiti Coast Residents at Parliament Tomorrow: Local National Candidate Will Pay for Steven Joyce’s Road Plans
Angry Kapiti Coast residents are converging on Parliament tomorrow to vent their anger and frustration at Transport
Minister Stephen Joyce and Deputy Transport Minister Nathan Guy who stands in Kapiti’s Otaki Electorate.
The purpose of the rally is to let the Government know that Kapiti coasters will fight to protect their seaside
community. People are tired of being bullied and not listened to about the destructive expressway and placards calling
Mr Joyce a ‘Bullydozer’ and ‘No Choice Joyce’, give some indication of the ill-feeling towards him and the National
government. Protest organisers say that National will pay for the roading plans at the coming election. “Nathan Guy will
lose his seat over this. We will not be a sacrificial lamb just so that big trucks can save a few minutes into
Wellington” says protest co-organiser Bianca Begovich.
The protest starts at 12 noon at Parliament on Wednesday 6 July. Protestors will be met by Maori M.P. Tariana Turia and
speakers include members of the Green Party, the Labour Party, Wellington’s Save the Basin Group and Greater Wellington
Regional Council.
