TV broadcaster raises thousands for charity
Television broadcaster Peter Williams completed the Ports of Tauranga Half Ironman on January 8 raising more than $8000 for cancer charity Look Good Feel Better on the way.
Peter announced several months ago he was taking part in the gruelling event, hoping to raise funds for the charity in honour of his wife Cecile, who died from cancer 15 years ago. Since then donations have flowed in through his website with the latest amount totalling more than $8000.
Peter threw himself into a punishing fitness regime which included cycling, swimming, running seven days a week, along with eating plenty of healthy food in the lead up to the event.
He completed the race in 6 hours, 36 minutes and 55 seconds. General Manager of Look Good Feel Better, Yvonne Brownlie and a team of volunteers were there to see him across the finish line.
He says that Cecile found a lot of strength after attending a Look Good Feel Better workshop and he wanted to do the race for her and for the charity which gave her such a boost.
Look Good Feel Better is a nationwide charity that helps thousands of women around the country who are going through treatment for cancer. At the free workshop, they receive a “makeover”, along with skin and hair care advice and a gift bag of cosmetics to take home. The workshops lift the spirits and put a smile back on the faces of those who are going through cancer.
“Peter’s commitment to the event came from the heart,” says Yvonne Brownlie, “Look Good Feel Better is very grateful for the funds raised which will go towards printed information for patients about the service the charity offers.”
