Progress in two Hamilton sexual assault investigations
Hamilton Police investigating Sunday's alleged sexual assault of a young woman in the central City are making progress
towards resolving the case.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said a car involved in the incident had been identified and
located yesterday and would be the subject of a forensic examination today.
"The 23-year-old victim was formally interviewed yesterday and we will be speaking to two men today who we hope will
able to shed light on what happened.
"Though our enquiries are continuing we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this matter and I would like to
take this opportunity to thank all those people who came forward with information to assist us getting to this point."
Meanwhile a 42-year old Waikato man has been arrested and appeared in the Hamilton District Court in relation to a
series of sexual attacks on Asian sex workers in the City.
"Because the matter is currently before the courts we are unable to detail what has occurred other than to say the man
has been charged sexual violation, threatening to kill and two counts of aggravated robbery for offences allegedly
carried out in July.
"We believe there may be more victims out there nervous about coming forward, I would just like to reassure anyone in
such a situation that Police take all complaints of sexual assault seriously and we anticipate further charges will be
laid."
