Hawke’s Bay Signature DISH gets social on Facebook
Foodies experiencing a taste of Hawke’s Bay at the Regional Signature DISH Competition will now be able to post their comments on a Facebook page.
The move signals a new era for dining in New Zealand says Food Hawke’s Bay’s Jane Libby.
“We know that people love to discuss food and wine and now we have the perfect forum for those discussions - with a competitive flavour.”
The Signature DISH Competition gets underway this Friday September 10th with a record 39 restaurants and cafés entered in three different categories - formal, casual and café.
Jane Libby said the Facebook page is another “first” for the region’s innovative food industry with the Signature DISH competition itself being unique in New Zealand.
“As far as we know, this is the only regional culinary competition involving a secret panel of judges selecting winners together with a People’s Choice Award in each category.”
Ms Libby said they would update the Facebook page with regular posts, including how many diners had been taking part in the competition each week.
“It will be a really interesting way to study what’s happening in the restaurant scene and how much people are prepared to spend on eating out and what food they are enjoying the most.”
While the competition aims to attract as many locals as possible, organisers also hope that the high standard of the menus will draw visitors from outside the Bay.
“We’re seeing artfully created dishes using only the finest Hawke’s Bay produce and matched with local wines, it’s the perfect excuse to visit the Bay for the weekend!”
The Signature DISH Competition runs from September 10 to October 19th. Details of competing restaurants and cafes can be found at www.foodhawkesbay.co.nz or on Facebook search: Fhb Hawkes Bay and join the group ‘Hawkes Bay Signature Dish’.
