Big screen to broadcast All Whites game
Wellington City Council has secured rights to Saturday’s All Whites vs Bahrain game and will broadcast it live on a big screen at Queens Wharf.
If the All Whites win the game, which kicks off at 8pm at Westpac Stadium, they qualify for the World Cup Final for the first time in 27 years.
The Council’s Sport and Recreation Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Morrison, says the Council will be putting up a 40-square-metre screen so that people who missed out on getting tickets to the sold-out match could still see the game.
“Reaction to having the game in Wellington has been amazing. People have been asking me for tickets and they are prepared to pay any price to get them. Broadcasting the game on the big screen means everyone will be able to get involved for free.”
The screen will be installed by lunchtime on Saturday.
