Napier Hill Lockdown Media Update
Evacuees of the Napier Hill lockdown are advised by Napier Civil Defence to confirm at the Welfare Centre at Napier
Intermediate School, Jull Street, if they require accommodation tonight.
The Salvation Army and Red Cross are working at the Welfare Centre providing emergency items and food for evacuees.
Any evacuees requiring urgent medical assistance should contact City Medical in Wellesley Road. Other people with
medical needs should contact their own GP or other GPs if available. They can subsequently gain medical supplies through
pharmacies with prescriptions.
Vets have advised that there is no cause for alarm over pets locked inside their homes without their owners. Domestic
animals can survive for over 24 hours without food or water. They will come to no long term harm and pets will also be
less distressed as they are in their home environment.
The cordoned off area on and around Napier Hill remains the same as last night. Anyone in the restricted area must
remain indoors and if emergency assistance is required must contact Napier Civil Defence on 835 7579.
