Protest Action supporting Sandringham Post and Kiwi Bank
Eden Albert Councillor Glenda Fryer says she understands there is to be a protest by local people outside the
Sandringham Post Office and Kiwi Bank on Thursday 30 April 11am-midday.
Says Cr Fryer “Local Sandringham people have contacted me to tell me they are going to gather outside the Sandringham
Road Post Office and Kiwibank to support local franchisee Chander Satija in his bid to continue providing services to
the people of Sandringham and Wesley.”
Councillor Fryer moved a motion of support for the retention of the Post office and kiwibank services at last weeks Eden
Albert Community Board meeting, which was passed unanimously. After receiving news that francisee Chander Satija was to
have the Sandringham Post Office and Kiwibank closed down, Cr Fryer wrote a letter to NZ Post and met with Auckland
representatives to ask them to reconsider their decision. NZ Post undertook to do this. NZ Post have yet to give Mr
Satija their final decision.
Says Community Board Chair Christopher Dempsey “The Community Board feels NZ Post rushed its original decision, and is
happy that it is reconsidering its position. We hope they will see this protest positivley and realise that the
Sandringham community is important to them as a bank, and that to alienate a community that welcomes them with open arms
and wants them to stay, does not make good business sense”.
Concludes Councillor Fryer “ I know the franchaisee Chander Satija has given NZ Post over 500 letters from local
people saying how much they depend on the services of the post office and bank. Many locals feel they also want to show
their faces and stand behind the only bank in Sandringham to tell NZ Post they love their local services and don’t want
them closed down. “
