MEDIA RELEASE - 19th April 2009
Serious Assault in Wellington City
Wellington Police are investigating an attack on a 19 year old male, which left him with severe facial wounds.
The man had been at a Nightclub on Courtenay Place, but left by himself in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was set upon by a group of men nearby.
The victim was chased a short distance, then punched and kicked to the ground, in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.
During the attack the young man was stabbed in the face with a sharp object, most likely a bottle, which caused a deep wound to his cheek. Shortly after 2am, a Police patrol found the victim in a disorientated state on Jervois Quay, near the City to Sea Bridge.
Wellington Police would like to hear from anyone who saw a young Polynesian man wearing a blue and white checked shirt, or white T-shirt, brown pants and brown boots, being chased or attacked in the Central City.
The victim walked some distance after being attacked, and members of the public may have seen a male clutching clothing to his face, and bleeding heavily.
If anyone can help with information about this attack please contact Wellington Police on 0800 TIPOFF.
