Kilbirnie Festival –Fun for ALL the Family!
Kilbirnie Festival Fair Day
This is the 12th year for one of Wellington’s biggest annual fairs, held in Bay Rd, 10am-4pm, this year on Sunday 1 March. The Festival presents 200 craft & food stalls, kids’ rides, kids activities and entertainment area in the Kilbirnie Plaza mall, music presented by top Wellington venue San Francisco Bathhouse’s Acoustic Lounge Stage, Thomas Goss’ School of Rock Stage, and our Community Stage for locals, offering a broad range of music, entertainment and performances.

Fair Day Devonshire Teas
Available at the Kilbirnie Lyall Bay Community Centre, a quiet oasis on Fair Day. It is a tradition of the Community Centre to offer, in our friendly, quiet surroundings, fresh scones and pikelets, raspberry jam, cream, and tea or coffee for $2.00. Open from 10.00am on Fair Day, Sunday 1 March. Just sit, relax and enjoy!
Fair Day cancellations on 384-1998 from 7am on the day.
Retailer Sale Days
Wednesday 25 February – Sunday 1 March, retailers throughout the Kilbirnie shopping area will be offering sales, discounts and special deals.
Bus Trips
Both of these two trips will use kneeling buses for easy access. Morning tea trip for rest homes, Thursday 26 Feb, leaving from road frontage, Rita Angus Retirement Village, 10am, returning approx 12.45pm, and going to Williams Park, Days Bay. Residents from Rita Angus Retirement Village, Kilbirnie, Mt Victoria Lifecare Newtown, and Alexandra Rest Home Newtown have been invited. See Sue, Activities Officer at the Retirement Village for tickets. Lunch trip for the community, Friday 6 March, leaving 11.30am, to The Beach Café, Eastbourne, see Beryl at the Community Centre, 387-7867, for tickets. Purchase your own refreshments on both trips.
The Kilbirnie Recreation Centre, the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre and the Ruth Gotlieb Kilbirnie Library will all be hosting Festival activities over the Festival week.
Library Activities
The Tea and Tales session, with morning tea, at the Library on Thursday 26 February will have a Kilbirnie flavour. Library staff will read excerpts from novels, journals, biographies and histories, and those attending are invited to contribute. The Library will also be hosting a Family Quiz evening starting at 6.30pm on that same day.
Succulents
Rita Angus Retirement Village are hosting the Wellington Cacti and Succulents Club on Saturday 28 February and Sunday the 1st March, and invite members of the public to visit 10-3pm to view the plants on display and for sale. There will also be guided tours of the Retirement Village throughout the day.
Community Directory
Wellington Citizens’ Advice Bureau- Eastern Suburbs (CAB) has produced a new and comprehensive eastern suburbs Community Directory, which will be launched at the Fair Day, and will subsequently be available free from the Bureau and other local locations.
