Tuk Tuks Take Over the City
Global engineering firm Maunsell AECOM has shown that sustainable transport can be fun – especially when you get
creative!
The firm teamed up with Auckland’s ‘Heart of the City’ business group for today’s national Go By Bike Day, commandeering
their fleet of bicycle Tuk Tuks.
The Tuk Tuk convoy was escorted by a large number of Maunsell AECOM staff riding their own bikes, to form a mass of
fluorescent yellow clad cyclists. The group spread the sustainable transport message all the way from their offices in
Newmarket, through Parnell, along Quay Street and into the Viaduct for Auckland City’s Go By Bike Breakfast. The bright
yellow spectacle highlighting the firm’s innovative approach to sustainable transport solutions and commitment to
promoting discussion around climate change.
Maunsell AECOM, provides design and advice to local authorities, and is regularly involved in advising on cycling
projects from developing high-end cycling strategies and guidelines to designing safer cycle lanes and cycle paths.
New Zealand Managing Director Dean Kimpton says, “Maunsell AECOM has a strong focus on incorporating sustainable designs
into its transportation solutions, which includes incorporating the needs of cyclists. We are very proud to be involved
in an initiative that raises awareness about the benefits of cycling.”
“As part of our company’s travel plan, we actively encourage our staff to use alternative transport to cars such as
cycling and public transport to get to and from work. Bike Wise is an important initiative because it increases
awareness of more sustainable transport alternatives, reducing our impact on the environment, and is good for your
health,” says Mr Kimpton.
