Press Release: World Television Limited
Manukau City welcomes the public to Chinese New Year celebrations with a day of fun-filled activities. On Saturday 24 January 2009, 2 days prior to the beginning of the Year of OX, when Chinese traditionally are busy preparing and counting down to the start of the Lunar New Year, World Television Limited organises a whole day carnival, ASB LunarFest 2009 The Year of the OX at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre, Manukau City.
Free to the general public, the event is a summer extravaganza with cultural dance and performances, traditional/ modern music, arts and crafts, Asian food as well as games for participation organised in three different sections indoor and outdoor within the venue.
Second year in its making, the event expects to attract more than 20,000 people to join in the fun. The programmes on stage would be hosted by Chinese Voice AM 936 popular presenters and DJs as well as current and past NZ Chinese Idols winners. This is a good opportunity to witness a troupe of professionally-trained performers from China show-casing extremely skilled mimicry and acrobatics to grace the occasion. A special demonstration of painting in finger calligraphy and a variety of ethnic performances add colours to this yearly carnival in true oriental atmosphere. All participants are included in lucky draws.
ASB LunarFest 2009 The Year of the OX officially opens at 3pm with Lion Dance and the day would be spectacularly concluded with Fireworks display scheduled at 10pm. It is believed that Year of OX symbolises hard working attitude and the occasion would hopefully mark the beginning of the end of the economic hardships that the world has been confronting in 2008.
