Stadium Trust Welcomes Plan Change Decision
The Stadium Trust has welcomed the decision of the Independent Commissioners to approve changes to the District Plan
rezoning the new Otago Stadium site for stadium and campus uses.
Stadium Trust Chairman Malcolm Farry says: “The decision is a significant and extremely welcome one. Under the District
Plan Change approved by the Commissioners, the harbourside site is now zoned for its intended uses for a new
multipurpose Otago Stadium and associated University facilities.
“In addition, the proposed realignment of State Highway 88 has been approved which ensures the highway upgrade can be
developed in conjunction with the Stadium development.
“The positive outcome of the Plan Change process is a very significant milestone for the new Otago Stadium. We now have
greater certainty that construction can commence as planned in 2009 for completion by 2011.
“We are delighted that another key project milestone has been achieved. The Plan Change is approved, land is secured,
design is in the final stages, the Guaranteed Maximum Price tender is expected at the end of the month, and regional
leadership is united in its determination to develop a modern, multipurpose, fully-roofed stadium for residents and
visitors,” he said.
“For January, our most pressing challenge is to maintain the momentum in private sector fundraising to ensure we meet
our February target” said Mr Farry.
