Get Your Game Face On!
take up Manukau’s Summer Reading Challenge
Manukau Libraries Summer Reading Challenge, aimed at keeping the youngsters reading during the coming school holidays, has a sporty theme this year.
The challenge called Get Your Game Face On revolves around games of all kinds, from board games to outdoor sports as well as online gaming. It involves children keeping a reading log, doing fun book challenges, surfing the web and using their creative skills to complete other activities.
Jody Gayton Learning and Literacy Coordinator for Manukau Libraries says the challenge is a great way for the whole family to connect with their local library.
“Numerous studies show that access to books and magazines and the amount of time children spend reading out of school is directly linked with gains in reading achievement”.
Places are limited so parents/caregivers are encouraged to pre-enrol their children using the online form at www.manukau-libraries.govt.nz or visit their local library from 8 to 12 of December.
The challenge starts on 15 December running until 23 January. All children who complete the challenge will receive a prize as well as an invitation to attend a wonderful celebration event in late January.
Hosted by Manukau Libraries, Parks and Manukau on the Move the celebration will be lots of fun. Kids will get to enjoy the great outdoors, learn about the bush, be spellbound by a storyteller and play lots of fun games. Lots of reasons Jody says to “Get Your Game Face On”.
