Track Ready, Schedule Confirmed, International Stars On Their Way To New Zealand

Taupo, New Zealand - With the Swann Insurance International Motocross just under two weeks away, the Taupo Motorcycle Club is looking forward to once again delivering a weekend of fast, furious and exciting racing with entertainment for the whole family.

"The line-up we are bringing to New Zealand is one of the strongest ever seen on our shores, with the exception of our 2006 international event which featured 9-time World Champion Stefan Everts," said Geoff Hall, President of the Taupo Motorcycle Club.

Kiwi sports fan have a chance to see their own Josh Coppins, Katherine Prumm, Darryl Hurley and Brad Groombridge compete against international stars such as Billy Mackenzie (Scotland), Mike Brown (America), Gareth Swanepoel (South Africa) and current World Junior MX2 Champion Matiss Karro from Latvia.

In an exciting addition to the weekend, motocross fans will need to keep their eyes peeled for 5-time World Champion Roger de Coster on Sunday 2nd November, who will be in attendance as the Team Manager of the Suzuki team.

Racing will commence on Saturday at 10am with New Zealand's top juniors testing their skills against current World Junior MX2 Champion Matiss Karro.

"For the first time ever in New Zealand, we will be running practice and qualifying as per the Junior World Championship standards - this will allow our junior riders to prepare themselves for next year's World Junior Championships in Taupo in August," said Geoff Hall, President of the Taupo Motorcycle Club.

"The Club and its members have been working against the clock to ensure the track meets the necessary international regulations for the November race and the upcoming World Junior Championship in August 2009."

The internationally-renowned Digger McEwen track has undergone major work recently with the Club spending in excess of $20,000.

Changes include a new underpass for spectators to allow access a superior viewing area; an exciting new sand rhythm section for the riders; adjustments to the start and pit lane areas, the installation of timing screens and the movement and installation of all the fencing and safety barriers.

"A family of four can enjoy the whole weekend of racing and entertainment for as little as $60 and a weekend pass for an adult is only $25," said Hall.

Racing commences at 10am on Saturday with Josh Coppins and international stars in action on Sunday at 9am.
