RDC backs the adoption of One Plan
Rodney District Council Mayor Penny Webster says she looks forward to the region’s local authorities adopting the first
version of the One Plan programme, which aims at developing the wider Auckland region.
The first version of One Plan will be voted on at the Regional Sustainable Development Forum on Friday October 10. It
contains seven programmes of action to drive the region forward in the short term:
• Improving Public Transport
• Completing the roading network
• Digital Auckland - Broadband
• Destination Auckland - Rugby World Cup 2011
• CBD/Waterfront
• Building communities
• Regional growth through skills
Mayor Webster says while the initial planned works are more metro-focused, the RDC acknowledges that these need to
happen for the good of the region.
“We are happy to support this knowing that future programmes will include those that benefit the Rodney district.”
Mrs Webster says One Plan contains projects that will provide significant flow on effects for Rodney, in particular
Digital Auckland, Destination Auckland and Regional Skills.
“Our councillors and officers have worked hard to ensure that aspects of programmes included in One Plan that will
benefit Rodney – and the wider region – have been included in it,” she adds.
“We have especially supported the provision of broadband to rural communities and have strongly advocated for this to be
reflected in the description of the Digital Auckland programme“.
Mr Webster says One Plan provides an opportunity for councils in the Auckland region to look beyond their boundaries and
recognise that there are wider regional benefits to be gained from working together.
“Rodney District Council sees this as a first step in bringing together key actions to drive the sustainable growth for
the wider Auckland region.”
