Call for Environmental Awards' entries
If you or an organisation you're involved with has achieved some excellent environmental outcomes during the past year, then why not enter Environment Bay of Plenty's annual Environmental Awards.
The awards, which open for entries and nominations on Wednesday 1 October 2008, recognise individuals and organisations working for a better environment in the Bay of Plenty.
Prizes of up to $1000 are awarded in five categories: community groups; educational organisations; individuals; businesses; and the media. Entries close on Friday 31 October 2008 with judging in November and a prize-giving ceremony in December.
Entry forms are available online at Environment Bay of Plenty's website www.envbop.govt.nz and from these offices:
* Environment Bay of Plenty in Rotorua, Tauranga and Whakatane;
* Public libraries in the Bay of Plenty;
* Department of Conservation offices in Murupara, Opotiki, Rotorua, Tauranga and Whakatane;
* Fish and Game New Zealand offices in Rotorua;
* Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society offices in Rotorua, Tauranga and Whakatane; and
* District and City Council offices.
Environment Bay of Plenty Acting Chief Executive Brian Trott said the awards were an excellent opportunity to recognise people, businesses, organisations and community groups for the fantastic work they did.
"So many people are really committed to the protection and restoration of our environment and of spreading the word for others to become involved," Mr Trott said.
"The work these people do is often voluntary, but it goes a long way towards helping us and improving our region's environment."
