Elemeno P set to rock Hamilton Youth Awards

Chart toppers and home-grown favourites Elemeno P have been announced as headliners for Recognyz 08, the Hamilton Youth Awards held on 10 October at the Clarence Street Theatre. The band will take the stage with a number of the city's acclaimed young performers as they celebrate Hamilton youth at its best. The night's line up will include performances by talented Rockquest finalists Jimmy and The Evergreens and a set from hip hop dance world champions Fusion.
Elemeno P frontman Dave Gibson says the band is rapt to be part of the awards and part of a gig that provides young people with a platform to promote their work.
"We here at the Elemeno P camp are totally behind Recognyz 08 and can't wait to rock the party that rocks the party. We've always been into initiatives that 'Recognyz' the importance of community, being an active part of that community and the ways creativity can be a part of that...really can't wait."
Recent finalists for the prestigious Silver Scroll Award, Elemeno P were acknowledged by the music industry for their exceptional songwriting talent.
Taking the stage with Elemeno P will be The Evergreens and Jimmy who respectively won first and second place in the RockQuest's Waikato competitions. Performing as Jimmy and Georgia, James Leigh also won the APRA Lyric Writers Award.
Hamilton Mayor Bob Simcock says "Council has identified young people and factors enabling them to be vibrant members of our community as key priorities for the city. Providing vehicles for them to build on their talents and contribute positively to the city's creativity and identity is key to that. This year Recognyz has received a record number of nominations. 33 finalists will be up for awards on the night. More than ever young people are achieving great things in the city. The awards are a valuable platform for celebrating that. It's great to see the event growing and artists of the caliber of Elemeno P coming on board to support it even more."
Between performances, seven awards will be given on the night covering a diverse range of categories from community involvement and volunteering to leadership of other young people, innovative and creative ideas, overcoming adversity and achievement in arts, music or culture.
The awards night will is set to deliver a great gig for Hamilton Youth will security proudly sponsored by Waikato Security. Tickets are available for $10 for students and $15 for adults and can be purchased online at www.ticketdirect.co.nz, by phoning 07 838 1111 or at all Hamilton City Libraries.
