Free bus or train ride for Auckland v Wellington
Air New Zealand Cup ticketholders
Aucklanders heading to the Air New Zealand Cup game between Auckland and Wellington on Saturday 20 September can ride selected buses and trains to Eden Park for free if they show their pre-purchased game ticket or present their Eden Park membership card*.
The Auckland Regional Transport Authority’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert, says, “Free bus travel is available on special bus services from Midtown (outside the Civic Centre on Queen Street), Albany Park and Ride (via all Northern Busway stations) and Takapuna station (Platform 1).
“Free train travel applies from all stations and on all train services operating on Saturday 20 September from 4.30pm until the close of service. Additional train services will be operating on all three lines to and from Kingsland train station, which is just five minutes' walk from Eden Park.”
Rugby fans planning to use the train to and from the game are advised that a bus replacement service will be operating until approximately 8.00pm between Papatoetoe and Papakura on the Southern and Eastern Lines. Where buses replace trains, normal train fares will apply for the entire journey. Passengers should check timetables carefully before travelling.
Mr Lambert says, “Please remember to show us your Air New Zealand Cup ticket or Eden Park membership card, otherwise normal train fares and special bus fares – $2.00 each way for the Midtown shuttle bus and $5.00 each way for North Shore buses – apply. Don’t forget to keep your ticket for the trip home.”
In addition to these additional and regular train services and special bus services, several regular bus services will take rugby fans to Eden Park. Free travel is not available on these buses. Normal bus fares from all stations apply.
Regular Dominion Road services (routes 25- and 26-) run approximately every 10 minutes from the St James stop on Queen Street.
Regular bus routes 23- and 24- run approximately every 15 minutes from Victoria Street West in the CBD to Sandringham Road by Eden Park.
Regular New North Rd services (routes 21- and 22-) run approximately every 15 minutes from Victoria Street West to Kingsland shops, a short walk to Eden Park.
“Rugby fans are advised to allow plenty of time for their arrival at Eden Park,” Mr Lambert says.
