Maungaturoto shooting

A 59-year-old man is appearing in the Whangärei District Court today facing firearms charges after a shooting in Maungaturoto last night.
At 9.30pm the offender went to a house in Maungaturoto and confronted the occupant, a 45-year-old man, with a shotgun.
A single shot was fired and the victim received an injury to his lower leg.
The Armed Offenders Squad was called in to assist and the man was arrested shortly after the incident.
The victim was transported to Whangärei Hospital for surgery and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The offender is facing charges of wounding with intent and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police are conducting a scene examination today and are speaking to a number of witnesses.
