More city electricity savings
Auckland City Council has intensified its efforts to conserve electricity this winter by turning off floodlighting on
buildings and reducing ornamental lighting at several more city locations.
This follows turning off the ornamental lighting at Auckland Town Hall earlier in the month at the launch of the
council’s electricity saving initiative.
Chairperson of the council’s City Development Committee Councillor Pesata Sam Lotu-Iiga says, “While we are turning off
ornamental lighting on council-owned properties, we are ensuring that lighting required for safety, or for the provision
of essential services tothe city, will not be impacted.”
Residents and businesses are encouraged to join efforts to save electricity at a time when the electricity lake levels
are low and there are increased warnings from power companies. To find out what you can do to save electricity, visit

The following is a list of ornamental lighting that has been switched off this week:
• Aotea Square – in-ground and fountain lights
•
• Avondale commercial centre – ground lights
•
• Blockhouse Bay – roundabout and Sail Square lights
•
• Freyberg Square – fountain sequence, including lights (the waterfall is running on minimum setting), embankment
and bullet lights
•
• Khartoum Square – fountain lights
•
• Kingslow Landing – ground and under-wharf lights
•
• Mission Bay – fountain lights
•
• Olympic Park – ground and tree lights
•
• St Patrick Square – fountain lights (the fountain is still on)
•
• Tamaki Drive - floodlights
•
• Viaduct Harbour – ground lights (all but restaurant alley), under-seat lighting in Waitemata plaza, tree lights
(restaurant alley).
