Pakuranga - Serious assault resulting in death

The victim of the assault that occurred at the Heading Home Bar in Pakuranga on Friday night, died in Middlemore Hospital on saturday evening. His name has not yet been released however Police can confirm that he was a male in his early 50's who lived close to the location of the incident. The assault appears to have occured, as a result of a verbal altercation involving one vehicle blocking another. This altercation escalated into a punch being thrown. Enquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant Peter JONES states 'this is a senseless act that has resulted in tragic consequences.'
Police have located, interviewed and charged a 48 year old man in relation to the death. He has been charged with Assault pending the results of the Post Mortem examination. Police have received assistance from members of the public however encourage anyone else who was in the area to come forward.
