Local Auckland Legend Gets In The Limelight With Leigh Hart
New Zealand’s first sole practice female lawyer, Nola McGowan was today crowned Auckland’s ‘local legend’ by Leigh Hart on behalf of the Limelight Charity Couch tour, for her work in the community. .
Surrounded by those she has helped in the community, Nola was honoured by Limelight at Rangitoto College in Auckland.
Nominated by Kirsty Johnston, Nola is described as a successful business woman who goes the extra distance to help her clients, as well as being heavily involved in the Child Cancer Society and other community groups.
Nola’s commitment and support for her clients is incredibly supportive, says Kirsty. “ She helps them, visits them regularly, takes them food and goes to all family events - way beyond the expectations of a lawyer/client relationship.
On top of her successful business practice, she also devotes time to helping out in the community.
Kirsty continued: “She has been heavily involved in Child Cancer over the years since her own son was a cancer survivor at the age of three years. She has spent many hours in Oncology with her own son but also reached out to many other patients and their families, especially those from out of Auckland. She also helped set up and support the Hospice in Hibiscus Coast.”
Johnston’s closing nomination statement about Nola was: “She is the most amazingly warm, kind, generous, loving human being. And those of us who are lucky enough to be in her extended family know what an amazing woman she is. If it’s something you are passionate about, then Nola is passionate about it for you.”
As part of her prize Nola McGowan will attend a celebratory event in Auckland at the end of next month where she will meet 20 other New Zealand legends from around the Country.
The Limelight Charity Couch tour is stopping at over 20 towns on the six-week nationwide tour, raising money for the Child Cancer Foundation and Variety – the Children’s Charity. Limelight will be honouring legends in each area who go beyond the call of duty for their community.
Limelight is a new nationwide online business and community directory service that provides direct benefits for Kiwi charities. The company aims to put the heart back into business by providing a content manageable online platform for businesses to advertise with 20%-40% of the listing fee going to a nominated beneficiary such as a charity, local club or school.
Limelight Charity Tour coordinator, Tim Porteous said: “It gives the Limelight team such a buzz to be able to meet and reward great people like Nola – who really give so much to their communities – and put them in the limelight.”
