Man Charged With Waiatarua Reserve Attack

The 33 year-old man arrested by Police investigating the March 9 attack on a 63 year-old woman cyclist in Remuera's Waiatarua Reserve, was released from an Auckland psychiatric unit this afternoon and re-arrested by Police.
He will appear in the Auckland District Court this afternoon where he will be charged with injuring with intent to injure, assault with intent to injure and wounding with intent to injure. The charges relate to three separate alleged incidents in or near the Waiatarua Reserve on January 13, January 18 and March 9, 2008, respectively.
The man, a local, was assessed by Duly Authorised Officers (DAOs) under the Mental Health Act and held in the custody of Mental Health authorities since his March 14 arrest for assaulting a Police Officer during the execution of a search warrant at his home.
