Incident Type: Media Release No2. Fatal Bus Crash
An update on yesterdays (2nd February 2008) tour bus crash on SH 6 near Charleston. One female, in her 20's, remains in Greymouth Hospital, and her condition is improving. She is a resident of the United Kingdom. The other passengers are remaining in Westport until they decide whether to continue with their holiday or not.
They are different nationalities. The British High Commission is actively involved in assisting their nationals, particularly the next of kin of the deceased, and the injured party.
The investigation into the cause of the crash will continue for some time as the specialist sections of the Police and outside agencies carryout their tasks. The Duty Coroner has been advised of the death. The vehicle has now been recovered and taken to secure storage for inspection. No further releases will be made until the investigation is completed.
