Beckham’s team to star in free training session
The LA Galaxy football team, featuring David Beckham, will hold a public training session – with free entry - at the Westpac Stadium on Friday 30 November from 11am till 1pm.
The session will give schoolchildren from around the region a chance to see the Galaxy - and Beckham – at training before their match against the Wellington Phoenix the next day.
It’ll also enable football fans to see another international star – newly-appointed Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit.
Gullit, who previously coached Chelsea, Newcastle United and Feyenoord, is a former European Footballer of the Year and a star player for the Netherlands in the 1980s and 90s.
Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast says she is grateful for the support of Terry Serepisos and the Wellington Phoenix in making the opportunity possible.
Mayor Prendergast says all schools in the region will be sent invitations to the training session this week. There will be no charge for admission to the training session but in order to manage numbers, schools will be asked to register their interest in attending. Stadium and City Council staff will then allocate seating areas at the ground.
