Youth Council contribution recognized
Members of the Hastings District Youth Council will be recognised for the contribution they have made to their
community at a ceremony on Monday 11 December. The certificate ceremony will take place at the Hastings District Council
Chamber at 5.30pm.
All fourteen youth councillors will receive certificates acknowledging their involvement in Council activities.
Community Development Advisor for Youth Emma Walsh believes the work the youth council does is vital to ensuring
Council recognises the needs and achievements of young people in the community.
“Youth Councillors put a lot of energy and time into their commitment to the Council. Being part of the Council is
important to them, but it’s also important for our community that their opinions and views are heard,” Ms Walsh said.
Certificates will be presented by Hastings District Mayor Lawrence Yule. Youth Councillor Anna Duggan will make a
presentation on ‘Ways to have your say in Government’, and Councillor Debra Turner will make a short speech.
The school principals and families of the Youth Councillors have been invited to the ceremony, as well as Hastings
District Councillors and Youth Policy Subcommittee representatives.
