Decision allows supermarkets in mega centre zone
Providing for supermarkets in the Nelson Park Mega Centre Zone will help promote sustainable development of Hastings’ resources, according to the result of the recent Hastings District Council’s Environment Court hearing.
The court’s findings were returned late last week.
The decision went on to say the court was confident any adverse effects of having supermarkets catered for in the mega centre zone could be adequately avoided, remedied or mitigated.
The Environment Court hearing was brought between Progressive Enterprises Ltd and Foodstuffs Cooperative Society Ltd as the appellants and Hastings District Council as the respondent.
Progressive supported Hastings District Council’s view that planning for the mega centre zone should include provision for a supermarket. Foodstuffs argued the area should not be zoned for supermarkets.
