Family fun day celebrates Lyttelton Pool re-opening
The opening of the redeveloped Lyttelton Pool is a celebration for the local community, says Christchurch City Council
Councillor Bob Parker.
“The redevelopment of the facility has been on the community’s wish list for many years. The work that has taken place
will provide a facility that meets the community’s needs and reflects the significant growth in families in the area.”
Cr Parker says the redevelopment of Lyttelton Pool is one of the first major projects to be completed on Banks Peninsula
since the amalgamation with Christchurch City in March.
“Lyttelton Pool is an important community facility, providing a gathering place for families to enjoy aquatic leisure
and recreational activities.”
The redeveloped Lyttelton Pool opens on Saturday 2 December with a family fun day celebration beginning at noon.
Cr Parker says more than $380,000 has been spent on the facility, the work including providing a new paddling pool and
creating a new entranceway from Oxford Street that had been landscaped with seating, gardens and an open play area.
“This has created a great place for families.”
Other work includes new shaded seating areas, a new family changing room with shower and toilet facilities for the
disabled, upgraded pool plant and equipment and windows along the southern wall to capture views of Lyttelton Harbour.
Cr Parker says the wider community, including Sumner, are invited to help Lyttelton celebrate its new facility on 2
December.
“The redevelopment of Lyttelton is the first of the projects to be completed under the Council’s Aquatic Facilities
Plan, which was adopted by Council in June as part of the LTTCP process.
“This plan provides Christchurch and Banks Peninsula with a network of first-class recreational aquatic facilities and
activities for a healthy, active lifestyle.
“Lyttelton can be proud of its new facility. All the community needs now is a long, hot summer to enjoy it,” he says.
