Commissioners appointed for Central Plains Water Trust consents hearing
Environment Canterbury’s regulation hearing committee has today appointed four commissioners to hear and decide Central
Plains Water Trust’s 55 resource consent applications. The consents, notified by Environment Canterbury in June this
year, relate to the taking, using and discharging of water from the Waimakariri and Rakaia Rivers connected with Central
Plains Water Trust’s proposed irrigation scheme.
The commissioners are Dr Greg Ryder, a water quality and ecology scientist and director of Ryder Consulting Ltd,
Dunedin; Philip Milne, an environmental law specialist and partner of Simpson Grierson, Wellington; Robert Schofield, a
planner specialising in Resource Management Act cases and senior principal at Boffa Miskell, Wellington; and Raymond
O’Callaghan, a civil engineer and managing director of Truebridge Callender Beach Ltd, Wellington.
“A joint hearing with Selwyn District Council will be scheduled in due course,” said ECan director regulation Dr Mike
Freeman.
Selwyn District Council has still to notify consents relating to land uses under their jurisdiction.
